Political Science and International Relations at UWA is undergoing an exciting period of growth. Applications for two Level B academic positions are invited to join the School of Social Sciences.
The two Level B appointments will be made with regard to the university's strategic focus on the Asian region broadly conceived and the Faculty's growing interdisciplinary research focus on Australia. The appointees will make important contributions to specialised and nationally visible research on global political transformations. The appointees should contribute to one or more of the following areas of research: foreign policy, international relations (including theories of international relations), international political economy, security studies, and the international relations of Australia, the Indian Ocean region and the Asia-Pacific region.
Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent in Political Science and International Relations. Applicants must submit a teaching portfolio with their application detailing their teaching experience in one or more of the broad areas of international relations, foreign policy, international political economy and the international relations of Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. An established research record in one of the specified areas of international relations research is required, and the ability both to contribute to another teaching and research program in the School of Social Sciences and to undertake research in another language is desirable.

Overview:
Griffith University is looking to appoint up to four Research Fellows in International Relations/Comparative Politics. Each fellowship is for a fixed period of four years. The fellowship positions are research-only for the first year, with a one course per year equivalent teaching load in each of the second, third and fourth years.
These are fixed term (4 years), full time positions based at the Nathan campus, Queensland, Australia.

The role:
Successful candidates will be expected to publish with the leading journals and/or presses in the field, as well as conduct research broadly oriented around the themes of governance, security and/or development. The empirical focus of this policy-oriented research will be the Asia-Pacific region.

Fellows will be located jointly at the Griffith Asia Institute and the Centre for Governance and Public Policy and associated with the School of Government and International Relations. The person:
To be successful in the role candidates must have:
• a doctorate in Political Science/International Relations or related field,
• a significant track record of publications in the leading book presses and/or leading international journals in the field;
• a program of research in governance, security and/or development; and
• a track record and/or planned program of empirical research on the Asia-Pacific region.
It is desirable though not essential that candidates have some focus in one of the following areas: international security; or governance; or international organizations; or human rights and the Responsibility to Protect; or political economy.
Successful candidates must be able to take up the position before 31 March 2014.
Salary range:
Research Fellow, Grade 2: AUD $80,964 - $96,148 per annum. Salary package including 17% superannuation contribution: AUD $94,729 - $112,494 per annum.

Griffith University is looking to appoint up to three tenure-track (continuing) positions in political science (including international relations and all other sub-fields) at the Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor level. These positions will be research-intensive for the first five years of the appointment and will then revert to a standard academic profile which includes teaching, research and service. For the first five years of the appointment, the positions will be required to convene and teach one full course per annum at either the undergraduate or postgraduate level.
These are continuing, full time positions based at the Nathan campus, Queensland, Australia.

The University of Sydney is home to the United States Studies Centre whose mission is to increase understanding of the United States in Australia. There is also a rich history of research and teaching on the United States in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, in addition, the University’s Fisher Library holds the largest collections of American material of any library in Australia.
The American Studies Program draws on staff from the Departments of English, Film Studies, History, Government and Music and the United States Studies Centre to offer the most extensive, multidisciplinary major in American Studies in Australia.
The American Studies Program currently invites applications for a Lecturer in American Studies and in this exciting role you will:
• teach two American Studies units
• develop curriculum individually and as part of a team
• supervise postgraduate students
• contribute to the research strengths of the Centre and the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, including regular publication in journals of high ranking and other quality outlets, and the pursuit of research grants.
• develop effective interdisciplinary collaborations within the University and with external stakeholders
• engage with the media and interested members of the public.
To be successful in this role you will need:
• a PhD in American Studies in either History, Politics, English, Film Studies or Media Studies
• teaching experience at tertiary level in American Studies
• a commitment to teamwork in curriculum development and other areas of academic administration
• a demonstrated research track record in American Studies
• the ability to articulate a plausible and ambitious three year research plan which demonstrates potential for outstanding scholarly achievement in your area of specialisation
• experience working in a collegial and effective manner with colleagues at Department, Faculty, and University level, as well as with external stakeholders
• a demonstrated capacity for engagement in outreach activities in American Studies (e.g. public talks and debates and media commentary)
• evidence of your ability to participate in collaborative research projects
• experience with a diverse student body, including local, career change and international students.
Desirable for appointment is your experience in a multidisciplinary American Studies environment.
The successful candidate will hold a joint appointment in the United States Studies Centre and the appropriate department or program in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
Remuneration package (Academic Level B): $104,644 - $124,263 p.a. (which includes a base salary of $88,426 - $105,004 p.a., leave loading and up to 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation). The successful applicant is also eligible for a performance bonus and salary packaging benefits.
The position is full-time and continuing (i.e. it is a permanent role), subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation and confirmation period for new appointees.
